About IPL for Hair Removal, Pigmentation and Red Veins

We have recently invested in the worlds most advanced IPL technology.  The Anthelia is a powerful medical grade IPL machine from France which is capable of treating all skin tones and hair colours as well as pigmentation, vascular treatments and photo rejuvenation.  Initially we are using this advanced machine for permanent hair reduction and skin treatments, with hair removal for red, blonde and white hairs coming soon.

How does IPL work?

IPL emits light in to the skin which is absorbed by the pigment in hair and turned to heat.  This heat safely damages the cells responsible for growing new hair.

Is IPL the same as laser?
Not all laser or IPL machines are equal.  A high quality IPL machine will be better than a lower grade laser machine and vice versa.  We have recently invested in the highest quality IPL machine in the world, available in only a small number of NZ beauty business and delivering far superior results to the 'standard' grade machines.

Research has shown that a slower, but longer heating process is considerably more effective for permanent hair removal than high and short levels of energy. Embrayce Beauty and Medispa Christchurch - Pain free Sheerlight SHR IPL E-light Hair Removal

What advantages does this have for you?
An optimal intensity can be achieved given that the same area is treated multiple times with low energy impulses. The treatment is more comfortable and the skin is better protected than with conventional methods. The treatment ranges from virtually painless to a similar sensation to having a rubber band very briefly pinged against the skin.

Is my hair and skin colour suitable?
Best results are achieved on clients with light skin and dark hairs in the treatment area.  Our new Anthelia IPL machine can also treat blonde, red and light coloured hairs.  The process for treating these hairs differs and treatment plans are priced separately.

How long should intervals between treatments be and how many treatments will I need?
The hair growth cycle and the interval between treatments should correspond, requiring spacing of approximately 4-8 weeks depending on the body area being treated.  Hair grows at different speeds in different places on our bodies and treatment is most effective during the growth stage.  The number of treatments required varies and will be discussed during your initial consultation.  With each treatment the hair will be reduced and for completely smooth, hair-free skin you can expect around 6-8 treatments (some clients require more and others less).

What precautions should be taken before treatment?
Sun exposure, fake tanning, sunbeds and hair removal creams should be avoided at least one week before initial treatment and throughout the treatment period although with the patented Rafele handpiece we can safely treat tanned skin on larger body areas as long as sun exposure has been avoided for 3 days prior.  Hairs should not be waxed or plucked less than 6 weeks before treatment.  Shaving is allowed any time.  Areas to be treated should be shaved the day before your appointment.  Certain medications can make skin more susceptible to damage and we will need to be aware of all medication
